Description

This easy monkey bread recipe uses store-bought cinnamon rolls to create a sweet, pull-apart treat perfect for breakfast or dessert. Coated in cinnamon sugar and baked with a buttery brown sugar sauce, it yields a soft, gooey bread that’s irresistible and quick to prepare.

Ingredients

Scale

Cinnamon Roll Coating

  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 2 cans Grands Cinnamon Rolls (with icing, optional for topping)

Brown Sugar Butter Sauce

  • 1 cup brown sugar, firmly packed
  • 1 cup butter, melted

Instructions

  1. Preheat the Oven: Heat your oven to 350°F (175°C) to ensure it’s properly preheated for baking the monkey bread.
  2. Prepare the Pan: Lightly grease a cake or fluted bundt pan to prevent sticking and make it easy to remove the bread after baking.
  3. Mix Cinnamon Sugar: Add 1/2 cup sugar and 1 teaspoon cinnamon into a large Ziploc bag and shake to combine evenly.
  4. Prepare the Dough: Separate the cinnamon roll dough from the cans and cut each roll into quarters to get evenly sized pieces for coating and baking.
  5. Coat the Dough: Place the quartered dough pieces into the cinnamon sugar bag, seal it, and shake until all pieces are thoroughly coated with the cinnamon sugar mixture.
  6. Arrange in Pan: Remove the coated dough pieces from the bag and arrange them evenly in the prepared pan, layering as needed to fill the pan completely.
  7. Make Sauce: In a small bowl, mix together the 1 cup firmly packed brown sugar and 1 cup melted butter until well combined, then pour this mixture evenly over the arranged dough pieces in the pan.
  8. Bake: Place the pan in the preheated oven and bake for 28 to 32 minutes until the monkey bread is golden brown and cooked through, with no doughy center.
  9. Cool and Invert: Remove the pan from the oven and allow the monkey bread to cool for 10 minutes, then invert the pan onto a serving plate to release the bread.
  10. Serve: Pull apart the monkey bread to serve while warm. Optionally, drizzle the reserved icing from the cinnamon roll cans over the top before serving for extra sweetness.

Notes

  • To make serving easier, allow the monkey bread to cool slightly before inverting the pan.
  • Using canned cinnamon rolls speeds up preparation time and ensures consistent dough texture.
  • Optional icing from the cinnamon rolls adds a delicious finishing touch when drizzled over the warm bread.
  • This recipe can be doubled for larger gatherings by using two bundt pans and doubling ingredients.
  • Be sure to coat the dough pieces evenly for uniform sweetness and caramelization.
