Description

A flavorful and quick Onion Beef Fried Rice recipe made with tender beef sirloin, sweet onions, scrambled eggs, and cooked day-old rice, all stir-fried together with soy sauce and aromatic garlic. This easy-to-make dish serves as a satisfying dinner option that combines savory beef with the comforting texture of fried rice.

Ingredients

Scale

Main Ingredients

  • 3 cups cooked day-old rice
  • 1 lb beef sirloin, thinly sliced
  • 1 large sweet onion, sliced
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 3 tbsp low-sodium soy sauce
  • 2 tbsp vegetable oil
  • 2 green onions, chopped
  • 2 large eggs, lightly beaten
  • Freshly cracked black pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Prepare Your Ingredients: Gather all ingredients on a clean surface. Slice the sweet onion and green onions; cut the beef sirloin into thin strips to ensure quick and even cooking.
  2. Heat Up Your Pan: In a large wok or frying pan, heat 2 tablespoons of vegetable oil over medium-high heat until shimmering, which indicates it is hot enough for stir-frying.
  3. Sauté Onions and Garlic: Add the sliced sweet onions to the hot oil and cook until they become translucent, about 2-3 minutes. Then stir in the minced garlic and cook for an additional 30 seconds until fragrant, taking care not to burn the garlic.
  4. Cook the Beef: Push the onions to one side of the wok or pan, add the thinly sliced beef strips, and cook until browned on all sides, approximately 3-4 minutes. This ensures the beef is tender and flavorful.
  5. Add Rice and Soy Sauce: Incorporate the cooked day-old rice into the pan, breaking up any clumps with a spatula to allow even heat distribution. Pour the 3 tablespoons of low-sodium soy sauce over the mixture and toss well to coat all ingredients evenly.
  6. Add Eggs & Final Touches: Create a well in the center of the pan by pushing the rice mixture to the sides. Pour the lightly beaten eggs into the well and scramble them gently. Once partially cooked, fold the eggs into the rice mixture along with the chopped green onions and freshly cracked black pepper to taste. Stir everything together for another minute and remove from heat.

Notes

  • Using day-old rice is key as it is drier and prevents the fried rice from becoming mushy.
  • Thinly slicing the beef sirloin helps it cook quickly and stay tender.
  • You can substitute vegetable oil with other neutral oils like canola or peanut oil for stir-frying.
  • Adjust soy sauce quantity based on your preferred saltiness.
  • For a spicier version, add a pinch of chili flakes or fresh chopped chili when cooking the onions.
