Description

This Soft and Sweet Vanilla Dessert is a light, fluffy baked treat that combines airy whipped egg whites with a smooth vanilla-flavored batter. Perfect as a delicate dessert or a sweet snack, it’s easy to prepare and offers a subtly sweet flavor with a golden, tender crust.

Ingredients

Scale

Base Ingredients

  • 3 eggs
  • 15g sugar (1 tbsp)
  • 1g salt (1/4 tsp)
  • 20g all-purpose flour (2 tbsp)
  • 180ml milk
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • Unsalted butter (for greasing)
  • Sugar (for dusting)

Whipped Egg Whites

  • 3 egg whites
  • 35g sugar

Finishing

  • Powdered sugar (for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Preheat and Prepare: Preheat your oven to 200°C (390°F). Grease a baking dish or individual ramekins with unsalted butter and dust with sugar to prevent sticking and add a subtle sweetness to the crust.
  2. Mix the Base Batter: In a large bowl, whisk together the 3 whole eggs, 15g sugar, salt, flour, milk, and vanilla extract until the mixture is smooth and homogenous, forming the base of your batter.
  3. Whip Egg Whites: In a separate bowl, whisk the 3 egg whites until soft peaks form. Gradually add the 35g sugar while continuing to whisk until stiff peaks form, creating a light and airy meringue.
  4. Fold Mixtures: Gently fold the whipped egg whites into the base egg mixture carefully until just combined, preserving the airiness and volume in the batter.
  5. Pour Batter: Pour the combined batter into the prepared baking dish or ramekins, filling them about three-quarters full to allow room for rising during baking.
  6. Bake: Bake in the preheated oven for 13-15 minutes, or until the top is golden and the center is set but still soft to the touch.
  7. Garnish and Serve: Once baked, dust the dessert with powdered sugar before serving to add a touch of sweetness and enhance presentation.

Notes

  • Use room temperature eggs for better whipping results.
  • Be careful not to overfold the egg whites to maintain the light texture.
  • Serve immediately after baking for the best texture, as the dessert may deflate if left to sit too long.
  • For a richer flavor, consider adding a splash of cream or a pinch of cinnamon to the batter.
